Harries
Harries is one of the most recognisable lifeguards on the Australian TV show, Bondi Rescue, which has aired internationally in more than 200 countries for the last 18 years.
Harries grew up in Clovelly, and has spent close to 3 decades protecting the community at Bondi, Tamarama and Bronte beaches. He is one of the longest serving active patrolling lifeguards in the history of Bondi.
A skillful waterman and passionate surfer, Harries is the winner of six Australian Open Longboard Titles and has won world titles in 2km soft sand running. He also won the Molokai2Oahu Paddleboard World Championships 40-49 years in 2017. He has won over 25 Australian Master and World Titles in multiple disciplines. He continues to compete in international events.
His skills have been put to the test over the years, saving countless lives. Harries has an impeccable record of no lives lost from drownings in his 28-year career. He has rescued close to 6000 people from the water. He has resuscitated 60 people clinically dead, and most recently he resuscitated an 8-week-old baby.
Harries has been first responder to over 70 deaths by suicide along the coastline, which lead Harries to become a strong mental health advocate. Harries has not only championed greater support for people living with mental health, but also delivers keynotes and workshops in schools and the workplace on mental health, resilience, leadership, and team building.
Harries is also passionate about physical health and fitness and is a certified Pilates instructor. He has taught Pilates in some of the most famous Australian landmarks including the Sydney Opera House, teaching groups of up to 50 people.
Harries also lends his name and time to support a variety of charities, including Sydney Children’s Hospital and Swiss 8, and has supported many skins cancer campaigns over his career.
As one of Australia’s most recognisable faces, Harries has helped many brands reach their target audience and increase their brand awareness, including Qantas, Honda, Hole-proof, Survival First Aid, Sports craft, Optus, among others.
